Real files, real output

Real PDF pages before and after translation, from a government report with a diagram and a 1907 scanned book. Drag the handle to compare.
A NIST report page with a diagram, in Khmer
- Headings, body text and the figure caption translated in place
- Labels inside the diagram are translated too
- Khmer is properly shaped: stacked consonants and vowels in place
NIST AI 100-1, page 20 (U.S. government work). Unedited output from the local pipeline, September 2026. Diagram labels keep the source's small size, so long Khmer words in narrow boxes can wrap between syllables.

What goes wrong with text-only translation
Why text-only PDF translation requires you to rebuild the file
A list of translated paragraphs is not a translated PDF. The headings, page breaks, figures, and reading order still need to be placed correctly.
Text-only output removes the page layout
You must rebuild headings, page breaks, labels, and page order when a tool returns only translated text.
Scanned PDFs need OCR
A scanned page has no text you can select. OCR must read the page before it can be translated.
Text can be separated from figures and sections
A text-only result makes it harder to match translated text with figure notes and numbered sections.
What you get back
Translate PDF files while preserving page layout and reading order
The translated text is placed back into the PDF. The result is a PDF you can open, read, search, and review.
Section 4 · Water quality
Dissolved oxygen by site
Samples were collected monthly at six river sites between March and October. Dissolved oxygen stayed above the 6 mg/L guideline at every site except Site C, where August readings fell to 4.8 mg/L after a week of low flow.

Abschnitt 4 · Wasserqualität
Gelöster Sauerstoff nach Messstelle
Die Proben wurden von März bis Oktober monatlich an sechs Flussmessstellen entnommen. Der gelöste Sauerstoff lag an allen Messstellen über dem Richtwert von 6 mg/L, außer an Messstelle C, wo die Werte im August nach einer Woche Niedrigwasser auf 4,8 mg/L fielen.

Scanned and mixed PDFs use OCR
Every page is checked with OCR. Selectable text is kept, and text found in scans, images, and graphics is added to the translation.
Page layout and reading order are preserved
Translated text is placed back into the PDF while keeping headers, text blocks, and page order recognizable.

What happens to your file
What happens to your PDF
Real output from our translation engine, from idioms and names to scanned pages and embedded fonts.
Meaning, not word for word
Text is translated in passages, so idioms read the way a person would write them.

Work with wisdom and corners stand up.
Approach life through reason and you sharpen your edges.
日本語 → EnglishNames stay the same
Character, place and product names are kept as written from the first chapter to the last. Real output from Pride and Prejudice:
“My dear Mr. Bennet,” said his lady to him one day, “have you heard that Netherfield Park is let at last?”
« Mon cher M. Bennet, lui dit un jour son épouse, avez-vous appris que Netherfield Park est enfin loué ? »
The layout stays put
Headings, columns, figures and page breaks keep their place. You get a translated file, not a text dump.
OCR for scanned pages
Scanned and photographed pages in English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish are read before translation.

PDF Translation FAQ
Can you translate a scanned PDF?
Yes. Every PDF is checked with OCR in the background, including image-only scans and files that mix selectable text with scanned pages. Clear, straight scans give the best results. Review handwriting, low-resolution pages, and unusual layouts before using the translation.
Will every PDF keep its layout perfectly?
No. Magazine columns, dense forms, merged tables, and major changes in text length can shift the layout. Review the translated PDF before you share a file with a complex design.
What file do I get back?
You get a translated PDF with its page layout and reading order preserved for reading and review.
Can I download a bilingual PDF with the original and translated text?
No. The current output is a translated PDF, not a side-by-side bilingual file. Keep the source PDF if you need to compare both versions.
How large can a PDF be?
You can upload a digital, scanned, or mixed PDF up to 100 MB. Long PDFs are processed in ordered OCR batches. Your upload is saved first, and the exact word count and price appear after document analysis finishes.
Which languages can I translate a PDF into?
You can choose from more than 50 target languages, including Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Arabic. The language selector shows the current list before translation.
How is the price calculated?
The price is based on word count in 1,000-word blocks. Your full quote includes layout preservation and appears before payment.
Is this a certified legal translation?
No. This is an AI translation. It is not certified or notarized. Use an approved human translator for court, immigration, or government documents.
Should I review the translated PDF before using it?
Yes. Review names, technical terms, numbers, tables, and pages with dense or unusual layouts. Use a qualified human reviewer when an error could affect legal, medical, financial, or safety decisions.
Who owns the translated PDF?
You keep ownership of your source file and translated output. PageTranslate does not claim rights to either file. You are responsible for having permission to translate, share, or publish the original content.
How is my uploaded PDF protected?
Uploads are encrypted while they move and while they are stored. Access is restricted through application and administrative controls. Review the Privacy and Security pages before uploading private files.
